    1963 336a

My son just traded for a 336A made in 1963 35. rem. He was actually wanting a gun to mount a scope and hunt with. The only pic I received so far shows the receiver was not drilled and tapped for a scope, but has a rough pattern. Any idea what marlin he has and value. I think he still wants a marlin that would allow scope mounting.

added pic with serial num. it looked like a GG to me

That is a waffletop Marlin 336A which was probably made sometime between 1948 to 1953/1954. That would be worth ~600 bucks in my area if it has not been D&Ted and is in very good shape.

Please don't let him drill and tap that one for a scope.

Buy it if you can get it for a good price. ($400.00) or less. You could trade it on this site for one that is already D&Ted from the factory. Your son could also put a receiver sight on it. It was D&Ted from the factory for the receiver sight.

Look like a G in the serial number, if so then it's 1950.

Great find. A first year 35 rem. You should keep it as is or sell it for enough to buy a later model that is drilled and tapped for a scope.

I'm gonna join the choir and yell from the behind the preachers: DO NOT DRILL THAT WAFFLE TOP RIFLE! There is a "G" prefix in the serial number (G62479), which is a 1950 manufacture date. Your son has a classic firearm.
