Need opinions on scope options for 336c 30-30

I am going to put a new scope on this rifle that I bought when I was in middle school ($150) about 20 years ago. I really like a 2x7 or 2.5x8 with a smaller 32-33 mm objective lense.
I have the Leupold VXIII 2.5x8 on another rifle and like it, but was wanting to spend less this time.
The Sightron S-1, Nikon Prostaff, and Leupold VXI are on the short list.
Is there something I am missing? Do you have any opinions re: one of the above scopes?
    Thanks

Check out "Bruno's" shooting supply in AZ ... good prices. Don't have url but a surch will turn it up. Is you other rifle a Marlin lever? If so, use Warne steel bases or Weaver, for both and get Warnes QD rings. Makes swaping easy and if you have a gride type bore siter, make notes and could be close to zero when swapping. I do this with several brands, styles where the scope bases have the same spacing. mike

I have a VX 1 at 2X7 which works great. It is mounted on Leopold rings and base. The scope has never lost zero.

I've got a Leupold VXII Ultralight 2-7X28, which I love and think is perfect for the medium/short ranges that I use my 336 for. burris also makes a 26 or 28mm but a few have complained that the edge optics are not good, i never tried one. a stock 336cs made in 1984 [can] shoot 1-1.5" at 100yds using 30-30 leverevolution off the bench.

The Leupold VX-1 is a great scope that can usually be found at a great price- I got mine at Cabelas out the door for $165.00. Optics are (like all Leupolds) superb. Warranty is the best. It looks good on the Marlin, too (I posted my rifle on the .308 MX Forum- look for "Marlin .308 MX pics"). Just remember to mount it as low as possible. Bob (OIF2)

    metaljacket,

I really like the BSA Optics Catseye scopes. They're not very expensive and I can see very well through mine in low light. They have every feature a good scope should have. They have a 1.5-4.5x32 Catseye scope with or without the illuminated reticle. I got mine at Natchez but they don't seem to carry either the standard or IR 1.5-4.5x32 right now. You can probably get it for well under $100. I got my 3-10x44 for about $47 but it was on sale at the time. I didn’t even have to pay shipping for it because I added it to another order I was going to place anyway. They are much nicer than the blister pack scopes but only cost a few dollars more. I think they're a great choice when cost is a significant consideration. Check them out at http://www.bsaoptics.com

    1.5X4.5-32 Banner.

Ranchdog put us onto these. They are really great scopes for their price point. Check out his info on optics forum, he has a whole slew of them and is pleased. They have held up to many test firings of some heavy kickers and taken a couple of falls as well-still tickin' Look under Bushnell, Banner scopes they'll be there.

Metaljacket, Of the inexpensive scopes on the market the Bushnell banner is very highly rated by those that have them. I believe ranchdog has talked about using them with good sucess. At around $60.00 one might just meet your needs. Regards, Byron
