    early marlin 1893

I have what I believe is an early marlin 1893, it has a few things about it that I am not sure of. first off there is no model number anywhere on it, then the butt plate is different than most that I have seen. I will enclose some pictures and if anyone has any
info it would be appreciated. JayIMG_0412.JPGIMG_0407.JPGIMG_0416.JPGIMG_0398.JPG

The model should be on the upper tang( the area directly behind the hammer). It’s hard to tell from the pics because t the buttstock is from a pistol grip deluxe ( very desirable) and the whole gun looks in decent shape. How is the bore? And can you post a pic of the area behind the hammer?

It's old alright!! 1894!! Pistol grip makes it a factory custom, butt plate may be custom, too! I'll have to check my Brophie book. My .38-55 was also made in 1894 and no model number, otherwise it's on the tang.
Hope you plan on shooting it!!

Couldn't find a picture of that style butt plate, but I think it's a shotgun style!

That buttplate was used on the Model 1881 Marlins. Usually on the large frame model, 40-65, 45-70. Probably had some left over.

That is an early deluxe with a model 1881 SGB plate, i have seen them on the 1889 1893 and 1895. Congrats, a very nice gun!

As stated above, the first few years of the '93's had no model designation on the tang. Looks like you got a keeper!

Give it a good cleaning before you shoot it.
