Got the rifle today and did a chamber cast with Cerrosafe. If I'm measuring it correctly it looks like the throat is just a hair over .376. This is the first time I've tried to measure throat dimensions so maybe you guys can do a sanity check for me. If I measure my slug right behind where the rifling starts that's where it is .376, but further back there is an angled portion that gets wider towards the rear. I assume I want to measure right behind the rifling, and not in the beveled area?

The rifle is nice. Lots of finish wear, just like it showed in the pictures, but the action is TIGHT. When I picked it up from my FFL he remarked that it felt like a brand new gun. I'm debating whether to touch up the bluing or just leave it. Something about honest wear on a gun is actually pretty appealing.

    Cool 38-55

    Hey WetDog,

Looks like you have that 38-55 fixed, you hit the last Turkey, and the last Ram

    Hey AleMonkey,

Kind of prefer the honest wear look, myself. Think you will really enjoy this rifle.

Yeah, I ended up just hitting it with some cold blue to touch up the more extreme wear and left everything else alone. I need to find where the wife put the camera so I can take some pics.

Been down with the flu for the past two weeks so I need to get my bullets sized and get this thing to the range!

Got my bullets sized and loaded up about 40 rounds. Yesterday would have been a beautiful day to go to the range but we had one of the nationwide 2nd Amendment rallies (that are being ignored by the press) here yesterday so I went to that instead. One of these days...

try one line sources for .38-55 brass, it is not a typical fast mover for local gun shops, so they seldom stock it, I try to limit my case forming to the wildcats I shoot, (.39 herrett, 7mm T-C/U, .357 Herrett, .338-284 & .375 JDJ), this is just my preference, but I shoot many calibers and like to have head stamps match ( I accidentally shot a .375 JDJ in one of my Marlin 444's one time, so I never take anything to the range that will interchange like that any more to prevent another mis-hap)

I know this is an old quote but I need to report a number of new 38-55 rifles added to the stable.

    I had JES do a Winchester (197 Model 94,

    I bought a C Sharps 1875 in 38-55:

And I resurrected an old Ballard and wrote an article about it for Black Powder Magazine:

    Loving that 38-55!

(Sorry...for some reason I can't post pictures today)
