    Reloading the 338 marlin

I just picked up a 338mxlr and i also got some brass and reloading dies for it as well. I've been looking around but all of the reload data I've seen has been for the ftx bullets, are there any other loads for this round? If so, what are you guys using? I remember at one time, Remington also made a 250gr Corelokt round for it.

the Remington 250 grain CoreLokt round is very appealing to me. I like the CoreLokt bullet a lot and their are several members here that have taken elk with it. It is a little hard to find but if you use AmmoSeek.com you can normally find it.

Myself I load a 200gr Nosler Acccubond at 2530 fps out of my 20'' chopped barrel 338MX. It has worked very well on a mule deer and an elk. I have no issue with the factory Hornady FTX ammo I just prefer a different bullet.

Can you load multiple in the tube at a time or do you just carry one in the chamber, one in the tube? I seen that it does have a plastic tip but I know they are harder than the ftx tips. I wouldn't mind finding a load with a little heavier bullet

Hope he doesn't mind me answering for him. He files the tip off a bit. I do the same with a 165 AB bullet for my 307. Until JACKTW comes out with his Marlin specific bullet, this will be the method I use for my 307. Hawk bullet is another that can be used in the 338 ME.

Hawk Custom Bullets makes several bullets that are correct for the .338ME. He (for a small up charge) will also turn a cannelure on them.
They aren't cheap, but may be the very finest available bullets for the ME.

There isn't anything wrong with the Hornady FTX. SOME have reported core separation, but usually from a dead moose! All the deer I've shot with the FTX have died forthwith, with the only "run" coming with a Lee 220gr cast (with small meplat, and drilled hollow point). He only went ~40yds after a high heart shot.
Ive also got a 200gr FNGC mold, but isn't anywhere near as accurate as the 220 RNGC.
HORNADY also makes a 250gr Interlok RN. I've got several boxes of those. I've worked up a load generating over 2,200fps from my 22" MX. I haven't chronographed them from my MXLR, but believe they'll make 2,300. No sticky extraction either. It would be suitable for anything in N.A.

The only thing I wouldn't use the 200 FTX on is Alaskan grizzly/brown bears. For evening hunts over fields, I've got the MXLR sighted for ~225yds with the FTX running right at 2,600fps. The MX is set up for the 220gr LEE zeroed for 150yds.
    Welcome to the .338ME clan.

Sorry I didn't get back to this one right away. I carry a full tube of the Noslers. Like Bryan wrote I round them off a tad. I am going to be working up a similar load for the 308mx using a 180 Accubond as well. Here is a picture of the 338mx 200 gr. Accubond finished product.

Bryan, I'm working on launching the bullets ASAP, logo and website is in the works, if they cannot finish up quick enough then I'll do a soft launch soon and folks can order via PM. Stay tuned.

I was going through a box of reloading equipment I put away sometime ago and found a NIB Range Dog Outdoor mold I bought for my 338MX. made by Lee precision. It's a 200 grain GC. Bullet. But right now I'm happy with the way my M.338MX shoots at 100 yards. My load is WLR., Hdy. Case, 2520 powder 44. gr. Hdy 200 gr. FTX. ... This load is accurate as I can hit a quarter at 100 yard and it chronographs at 2450 fps. This rifle and load is a power house for any medium to big game in the state of NY.

I haven't started loading for my 338 yet, but I don't have any
problem with the FTX bullet personally, other than it's a little
    on the wicked side...
I do not like LVR powder at all though...
