Bullet placement and bullet construction matter as much as anything. Like I've said for a couple decades now, you can kill a deer with a baseball bat, a 2x4, or a ball peen hammer if you hit it in the right place. The gun you shoot the best is generally the best choice, as long as it has enough power to do the job cleanly.

The 357 isn't a cannon, but neither is the 32-20, or for that matter, the 25-20. And both have killed truckloads of deer through the years. The 357 is a lot better than both.
true a well placed shot with the right bullet will do the job, and yes the 357 is better than say a 32.20 but the 357 is no 30wcf just as the 30 wcf is no 06 all of this said I agree with you pick a cal you like and type of gun, the most important thing is practice hunt with it, shoot it untill its like second nature, look at the old west how many very large animals were taken with a 44.40, its what they had and learned to use it very, very well, by the way I have a 357 rifle and I like it, but I have, oh well you know 45.70/ 30wcf, 44.40 44 mag etc, the most fun is using them all, but we all for some reason have a favorite, so hunt ,safe shoot safe, and load safe,

Jim, nice family photos. And nice job on the scope mounts...

You gotta admire a guy who is willing to stick his neck out for what he believes in.

(Heh. You guys sees that? The neck joke? On account of Jim's long neck?)

They had to bring the 30-30 into this

There is no real comparison between the two, except for the extra capacity the .357 offers and a moderate decrease in recoil. Some interesting light reading:

some of those heavy 357 loads would be very heavy in a revolver, their both good cals, but given the choise I would take the 30wcf for sure, unless I was after small game or coyotes I have two loads a lead light load for sm game and 158 gr xtp for coyotes one move of sight elevator presto.

You know......I've always found that when a fellow ask about "which is better" it always boils down to a "well, just buy 'em both" kind of answer. But remember.....we can spend your money faster than your wife\girlfriend\mistress can. So....just keep all of that in mind when it comes down to forking over the cash!!!

sorry, I guess we get carried away, if you can only get one , do some research, soul searching, and if you have friends with both try em, and most of all enjoy it .
