Somewhere in one of the discussion threads, I read about some .22LR loadings not being up to expectation concerning consistant loading.  I'm not talking match grade accuracy, but just good consistant shooting ammo.

Well, the blooper brick happened to me and one of my buddies.  I bought a brick of Winchester Wildcats at one Wal-Mart.  Plans had been made to go out plinking.  He bought the same brand at another Wal-Mart store.  It happened that there was a good sale going on on this brand.  I'm not kicking Winchester ammo at all, except that we both had a brick from different lot numbers and both bricks were about 1 in three bloopers.  All of them fired, but some barely made it out of the barrel.  Some went pop, some poof, some so soft of a report that they sounded like a cap gun, others were quite loud.  I had some other loose boxes of ammo from Federal, Remington, CCI, Squires Bingham, PMC, and Winchester.  All of these loose boxed .22's were consistant.  The price range was from discount level to supposedly premium level.  We were not shooting for accuracy.  We just out for some fun plinking and powder burning.  We shot them all.

The disturbing thing was the Winchester Wildcats.  I know they are their promotional product made to be sold cheap but you would think that they would be somewhat consistant.  They were really bad.  I have a couple of rifles and pistols that are quite accurate with cheap bullets, but with these bullets it was quite a challenge to hit a Coke can at 25 yards.  There were fliers, droppers, curves to the side, all over the place.   We amused ourselves by calling our shots as to whether the next bullet would curve out or drop, go high, or how many feet we would miss the target by.   It was kinda like shooting  Daisy's lowest priced BB gun at paper plates at 25 yards with a stiff  swirling wind blowing the BB's off course in any direction.

At least all of them came out of the barrels.

With the other loose boxed ammo of all the brands,  the report was consistant as was the ability of the bullet to hit where we were aiming.

We had lots of laughs,,,,,,Maybe I should buy up all of the Wildcats I can find so that when I'm in a comical mood, I can just shoot my guns and laugh hysterically at the wherabouts of the hit.  Or maybe I could slip them in on my buddy next time we go out, and shoot some good ammo myself and laugh at HIM when he can't hit ANYTHING he shoots at,,,,,,,

I do hope that Winchester will fix their problem with these.  They do have some fine products.

Have you guys and gals had this much fun?  If you want a good laugh or want to play a prank on someones otherwise good shooting ability,,,,go out and buy up a few bricks of these for someone SPECIAL,,,,,,,,,,,

I have had good luck with most. but usually don't buy the bargin stuff.. I did get some cyclone Rem just to see what it will do in my rifles..
I have a Rem 581 and the CZ 452..  so far I have not found anything that bad I couldn't use it for hunting ..

I like wolf MT and aguila standard velocity. Never had any problem with either of them. I used to use win T22 and had good luck with it also, but I don't see it anymore.

I had excellent results with the Wildcat when they first became available here, about 5 years ago. They changed the lube on them after the first year, and I had to quit using them....

I still shoot Winchester "promotional" ammo- the current offering from Wally is the LR Dynapoint- performance is about equal to the CCI Mini-Mag for me, with only a couple of "off" rounds per brick. This stuff is sold in a carton of 500 loose rounds- no 50 round boxes....

After trying almost every brand and style of .22LR ammo available locally, I have pretty much settled on three.  Win Dynapoint for the bulk of my shooting, Wolf MT when I want to shoot nice tight groups, and CCI Mini-Mags when I take the .22 hunting.  All three are very dependable in my rifles and are nice accurate rounds.  Glen

I have just discovered a local gunshop selling “Yellow Jackets”.
A friend of mine has been shooting them at the range, and they seem OK as well as being pretty fast. Any comments on this brand gentlemen!!!

I found the Yellow Jackets to be nicely accurate. Good close to moderate range varminter- not much good for the small edibles I hunt. They shoot a bit tighter than stingers for me....

My kids shoot a lot of Wildcats and have had no trouble.  Knock on wood.  2 of my boys don't want to shoot with anything else.

I got a bunch of them when K-mart was getting rid of them.  I figured for the price I could use them for zeroing scopes and letting the kids plink.

With the success I have seen with them I am thinking of getting a Paco Tool to mess around with to see what they'll do.

Other than that, I have never heard of anyone else having the troubles that you have.  What a bummer.

I have found that most of the bulk stuff isn't good for much except when I am in the mood to throw lead at a can.  I use most of it in a 22 revolver  that I have.  Works good enough in that. Short range and goes BOOM.
