Hey guys, I consider myself to be in the upper-mid to upper-crust of redneck marksmanship and I can actually feel the pain of FlyingFool in his post right here:

http://www.marlinowners.com/forums/index.php/topic,53691.0.html

I didn’t want to say anything before because I always feel you should get to the basics to check out your rifle.

My rifles never strayed more than ½” from hot, cold, fouled, or clean.  I shoot my rifles on a regular basis.

I’ve been an avid user and promoter of Hornady Leverevolution since 2003 and my groups were always spot on.

Over the last year My Hornady’s from certain lots have strayed tremendously at 25 yards.  Today with lot#3090803 I’ve decided WTF Hornady!!!  My 50 yard shot was 4” high and 2” right, time and time again.  Checked at 25 yards and had 2” NON-groups.

I slid in some Powermax because I’ve mentioned before they shoot the same hole for me as Hornady.  Three rounds touching dead center at 25 yards.

Slid in some Powerpoints same result only 1 1/2" low as they should be.

Flyingfool, I hope you get it worked out man.

Hornady 30-30…I’m done!!

Maybe time to reload.

I've had the same experiance with the LE's, mine hit all over the target, so I figured that my rifle didn't like them. Maybe there is a little more to the equation. Huh

I just talked to a guy at Hornady and he said they have a problem with microgroove barrels getting coppered up.

I say BS because I keep my barrels compulsively clean and free of copper and I shoot them often enough to depend on them.

Hitting all over the target is one thing but shooting 4" higher at 50 yards than the previous lot is another.

I never could get my groups to touch using the LE's...but the Rem CL 170's work beautifully.

I will never ever again buy factory hornady ammunition. I find that their 250gr. XTP shoots very well out of my 45long colt loads over 25.7grs of 296, and their 140gr. interlock PSP over 39grs of H-414 in my 6.5x55 m96 swede, but thats it. I like their bullets but their factory ammo is horrible, and from what I've read on some occasions dangerous!! I'd expect this from 1950's yugo 8mm mauser surplus... not factory hornady.

This is my experience with a 45-70.  I thought it was me, thought it was a fluke, but it keeps happening.

First few shots all over the place.  Then, perfect, making me think I was cold, not the gun.  Shoot a few more, great results.  Clean the barrel, wild *ss shots.  I keep thinking it's me needing to settle down a little after the first few shots, but everytime I clean my rifle they go all over the place, not consistently off (not all 4" high for example), but all over the paper.

I don't know if that's what happening with your stuff, but my Rem 405s don't do it like this.  This is all factory box ammo, not handloads.

It is just typical of a manufacturer. They make something and corner the market and then they think they have you and quality goes down to make profits go up. But it is still a better system than any other country in the world.

I've recieved a couple of PM's saying I need to clean the copper out of the barrel.

Thanks for the tips but...

This redneck has a better set of teeth than a black millionaire.  I learned early how to use those red disclosing tablets to show you where you missed spots brushing.

I clean each of my rifles after shooting and no blue (see red tablets) comes out with the copper solvent when I'm done.

The ammo is screwy

The factory LE's are not that great, but the same gummy tip reloaded is superb! I am assuming it's because I am tweaking the velocity to obtain the best group for my gun.  I shoot 1 1/2" all day long at 100 Yards. The factory 170 grain Federals also shoot well.  I use the foamy bore cleaners once in a while, they do work.

Well, don't take my 45-70 results as what'll happen with your 450.  I just can't say for sure what it is, it's just flukey like.

I would hope LE ammo could do better than 1 1/2" at 100 yards! Shocked Shocked

No Sir, thats 2" at 25 yards.

I could see Hornady's "micro-groove" theory with a copper fouled barrel because the new shape and boat-tail results in much less rifling contact.  This isn't the case.

Since I first started using them, Its been same hole at 25 yards, and less than an inch at 100...Not now.

I wish copper were the problem, life would be far easier.
