I'd be tempted to go with a 358 win barrel if they made one.

This Feller Shoots Soooooooo Darn Good You Would Not Belive it , The Load Data That Is Out There Is all around The Leaver Guns It Was Chambered In and You Can Load Over with The Bolt Gun Mine Shoots The 250 Grain Pills at 2470 10 Shot adv and It shoots Them Just Unreal . Ok maybe you can give me some input on this. The Marlin XL-7 is roughly 300.oo plus a barrel for 400.00 plus for a rifle ready to go of around 7 to 800.oo Bucks. Where as I can get a very good shape Remington that has a factory Barrel for the 35 Whelen for around 600.00.

And in the end I will just have a Marlin with an aftermarket barrel which I do not think it would raise the value of the rifle any.

So since I have never changed a barrel on anything and have only used the barrel that was put on them from the factory what would be the advantage of changing a Marlin XL-7 from 30-06 to a 35 Whelen or 35 Whelen improved over that of being able to purchase a factory rifle made for that round?

Thank You

I'm ot sure I'm following.  If you can just replace barrels...

You would have TWO guns for $400 by converting the XL7.  You would have the original barrel say 308 Win or 30-06 Plus you would have the 358 Win or 35 Wheelen.  OR you could have a single Remington for $600.

So doing the math you can have two guns and save $200 to boot.  What's not to like about that?Huh?

I was going to buy a Ruger 77 in 375 Ruger but with this amount of success I might have to be the first guy on the block with a Marlin in 375Ruger

I'm a f.n.g. here, but have some firearms experience.  These guys make a very nice Savage wrench.  I just replaced my worn out Midway wrench with one of these.  It's a very nice tool.  I paid $29.95 including shipping.

MCCREE'S PRECISION

I have no affiliation with this company other than being a very satisfied customer.

There would be no advantage to changing a .30-06 to a .35 Whelen AI or otherwise.  In fact the .30-06 is a better cartridge than either of them or even the .280 Remington.

I have reached up to the gun rack and taken down the .30/30 carbine by some process of natural selection, not condoned perhaps by many experts but easily explained by those who spend long periods in the wilderness areas.
