Did you have to make any mods to the stock? I have the XL-7 in 30-06 and thinking of finding a 35 Whelen barrel for it. But not sure where to start on that as I would like for it to just go on without much work if any to the stock.
And Even though the Pictures are a bit dark it looks GREAT

I Did Have To Open Up The Ft Of The Stock The Rear Was Big enough Becouse The Factory Marlin Barrel Is A Little Bigger Than The Savage But Becouse Of That It Fit Great , Donut Yes It Is Free floated I Free Floated It also When The 308 Barrel Was On It , It IS also Bedded In The Action and Recoil Lug . That makes me wonder if I can get a Savage Barrel for the 35 Whelen and just bolt it on and go? Hmmmmmmmm

I do have to say though I am confused about the kick of the .308 and my 30-06 in my Marlin XL-7 seems to have almost nill. I would compair it to my Marlin in .357 Mag.

E R Shaw Tells You They Olny Build a Sholdered Barrel B/S I Have Changed The 308 Marlin To 243 and 7/08 and The 30/06 To 338/06 Useing Savage Barrels , The Olny Thing I Have Seen Is One Savage Barrel Was Deep Chambered and I Trimed .005 Off The Rear Of The Barrel With The Lathe But You Could Use A File To Do That . Some say the threads are different as others say the number is just rounded up, others say you have to file the bolt head on the marlin ect. would it be possible for the mods to make a sticky on the board that those who know what they are doing can outline what is really involved in swapping a savage barrel to the 7? it really opens up a TON of possibilities for this awesome gun. I love mine the way it is but was thinking that a 280 would be really cool too  |

That Is a Savage Barrel On That Gun Look At The Nut , I Used The Marlin Nut On a Savage and I Drives The Savage Guys Nuts

Ok maybe you can give me some input on this. The Marlin XL-7 is roughly 300.oo plus a barrel for 400.00 plus for a rifle ready to go of around 7 to 800.oo Bucks. Where as I can get a very good shape Remington that has a factory Barrel for the 35 Whelen for around 600.00.
And in the end I will just have a Marlin with an aftermarket barrel which I do not think it would raise the value of the rifle any.
So since I have never changed a barrel on anything and have only used the barrel that was put on them from the factory what would be the advantage of changing a Marlin XL-7 from 30-06 to a 35 Whelen or 35 Whelen improved over that of being able to purchase a factory rifle made for that round?

An A&B Barrel is $130.00. The one on my 111 shoots better than the factory barrel and I can switch barrels if I ever wanted to again relatively easily.
