Hello,

I as some of the older members know have a nice old model 60. I have used it without modifying anything for years, except a cracked buffer and a little touch up blue. I was zeroing it with some ammo that shot at about 1100 fps (real chrony reading) and found it was shooting a lovely group, 50 meters about an inch ten bullets or so. I shoot another twenty or so and then the old problem crops up, the trigger feels so hard that I get exhausted and begin to pull the shots off target.

I have studied Arrow Dodgers diagrams again and again and I would like to lop of one coil of wire off to make the trigger a little lighter. But how does that spring come off? It is the one held in place with the gem clip. I am scared that everything will go SPROING!?!

Do any of you gents have a pictorial tutorial of this process? It is just a few days from a wabbit hunt at a friend's farm and I wanna really get a few. Please help me, really need to get them wabbits.

Regards,

Katana

I am going to do a trigger job on my 60 as well. I found a lot of useful info, diagrams & pics at RFC here:

Thanks 4 runner, I have these diagrams but I m worried about how to take the hammer spring out to cut and how to reinstall it. I have looked at it several times and keep scratching my head and just reassembling the rifle.

It's probably not the spring if it is a progressive problem as you describe.

I would highly suggest smoothing the trigger, even doing the setscrew mod listed HERE
READ IT ALL THE WAY TO THE END!!!  Some of the first trigger mods didn't last...the best one is the Setscrew Mod.

Also, if you are using dirty ammo like Remington...you WILL have to clean it more often, the crud builds up quick in the action and causes the problem you describe...

So does firing HYPER-Velocity ammo like Velocitors...it makes the plastic Buffer break down...and little chips of plastic can get lodged in the trigger area and cause it to be hard to pull.

Yep, there's a reason Marlin advises us not to use "hyper" ammo in our Marlin autos. From my years hunting, generally if you can't kill your quarry with HV, hyper won't help. In less than say 75 yards, I like to use subsonic hollow points. Some autos won't function well with subs however.
Shreck is right, stay away from Remingtons..dirty. CCI, Federal and Aguila make cleaner shooting rounds (IMO).

We are only here to help Smiley

Besides, most of us love nothing better than hearing that another Marlin has been Improved and is functioning flawlessly...or pretty darn close  Grin

The great thing is that over time, you see the evolution of the Mods...for example, if you drill the hole in the trigger at the wrong angle, you end up with having to fill it with JBWeld or some other epoxy...so it's important to drill the hole at the proper angle, and USE a DRILL PRESS when you do it  Wink
