Any advantage to the 24 inch barrel on the xlr's
I have the 1895 410 blued version that i love for rabbit hunting. I guess I need an excuse to buy the xlr version.

No advantage at all. I'm thinking I'm going to have to get choke tubes installed too. Its only good to about 25 yards with the cylinder bore.

Seems like a good idea to have choke tubes installed. Wonder if anyones had this done and what the cost.

I figure the .410 was designed for slug deer hunting hence the cyllinder bore.
No gunshop is more capable than Briley.  Check their website for choke fitting prices.  I read it as $199 including 3 choke tubes.

Winchester did it to their 410 lever shotguns. I am thinking of having it done to one of my 410'a Just can't decide which one... The XLR or the other???  Shocked Huh Huh

I picked up some winchester #6 shot and patterned the XLR on a squirrel life size target. I got dead squirrel at 20 yards, a single pellet between the shoulders and another in the hind foot at 25 yards. At 30 yards, a single pellet in the head and at 35 yards a clean miss. I have a box of #4's I have yet to pattern, but this cylinder bore is not good at all.
I took the gun for a round of trap when I first got it. I usually break between 20 and 22 on singles with a 12.  I broke 6 with the 410. When I went out to check the clays, I found many with 1 or 2 holes where the #8 shot hit them and went through but did not break the clay.
I'm thinking I need full choke-- so the tubes are going to be a must. The other option that keeps ringing in my ear ---- is to send it off and have a gunsmith rifle it and modify to 50 alaskan. I've got a 50 ak cowboy--- maybe I need an XLR  to go with it. But I can tell you, its a very short range gun now!
