hi everyone!  i'm a newbie in the north dallas suburbs who recently pulled out an inherited 1981 marlin 336 in .30-30.  i had a USMC buddy help me get it cleaned up, found a scope mount and some very knowlegeable guys at the academy sports in plano, and got a simmons scope from a buddy who got a new nikon for his anniversary.  got some help to get the scope mounted and sighted in and put 16 rounds through it this last sunday.  it shot fine, but got it home to clean it and a splinter/chunk had come out along its grain right where our thumb would rest on the left side of the grip where it meets the receiver!  other that that, it has a little surface rust and some knicks in the stock, but looks good overall and i am very happy with it and proud to be the 3rd generation to hold this fine weapon.

i have already found a lot of usefull info in this forum and look forward to reading and contributing more.  thanks!

Welcome from Austin.  I've got a similar vintage 336 that was my first Marlin.  It wasn't my last.

From one new guy to another, Howdy there!
I had a 336CS (?) back in the 1980's. Can't recall whatever happened to it because I no longer have it. Maybe my dad ended up with it. No matter, it was a neat rifle and I did enjoy it.

Hey, Mattx!  Welcome.  It sounds like your Marlin is very much like the one I "inherited"... mine is a 1984 336CS 30/30 with a Simmons scope.  Definitely a great firearm.
