Well, some of you guys may have read over on the 45-70 page that I have joint problems in my right wrist. Thats why I sold the 1895SS, my wrist would swell up some and hurt after a range session. Well, after reading what some have said regarding mild recoil in their 444P, and after reading Marshal Stanton's report on his...I traded for an unfired, new 444P Outfitter today! I am doing it long distance, but trading my baby Marlin .357 magnum and some boot. I have had three 444's in the past. First one was back in '75, 1895S, shot good, but a young family's needs required me to sell it. Then, several years ago, I had a Model 94 Timber carbine, half magazine shorty w/ports that was a sweetheart, loaned it to my buddy in Joplin, MO, will never get it back! After that I bought another Big Bore but w/full magazine, shot it some, and gave it to my son in law upon my wrist surgery back in 2007. Now, I'm back full circle! I will post pics once I get it after all the shipping/transfers. I could have downloaded the 45-70, but did'nt want to do that. I am not sad about trading the 1894C either, it never grew on me, and I just got it back a few weeks ago, lol. Oh well, I leave for deer camp this Thursday for a week, just taking the 336 30-30, looking to bag another fat Utah mulie! I will shoot a hog w/the Outfitter later in the year.

I would like to hear from other 444P owners as to what load you enjoy using; as far as recoil/accuracy/effectiveness on game is concerned? Thanks.

Light load is 44.0 gr IMR-4198 with 265 gr. Hornady. Heavy load is 42.5 gr H-4198 with 300 gr Hornady XTP. I'm thinking of a 240 gr XTP load for the smallish whitetails we have here, probably with 50.0 gr H-4198.

When I got my original 444P back in 2001 or 2002 I only tried the Nosler 250 grain Partiton and it shot very well with Accurate Arms XMR2015 (52.0 grains) and I set it off with CCI200 primers .
A year or so ago I tried some of Olle's (405WCF) 400 grain cast bullets in the little rifle and it liked them also with RL7 and Varget .

I had some of those Nosler 250's in some custom Conley Precision amm0, shot very well indeed. I like that bullet, but can't find any. I also liked the Hornady Light mags 265FP in factory. Man, how does that 400 gr. recoil in the 444P? Sounds like a great elk/bear load, or anything else, lol. The 280-300 cast bullets keep wooing me! Keep them coming guys, I am writing all this down for future load workup, thanks!

I also no longer own a 444P . It's my intention to get a 444S that was built from 1975 to 1978 and have it factory rebarreled with the ballard rifled faster twist barrel in the express intrest of shooting the Mountain Molds 433-400GC mold I already have and my version of the Ranch Dog bullet in 432-400GC . May have a HP mold pf the RD 432-400GC made as well (of course that would end up being about 380-390).

My rifle came in! It's going to the smith on Monday for a Wild West trigger, Limbsaver pad, Williams 5D peep with modified Weaver bases ( shortened one screw hole, can leave peep on when scoped, viceversus) will put a leupold 6x on it for range work, then put the Weaver 1x3 on it for pigs this winter, whoopee! Will post pics later. P.S. Its a great looking little rifle too, nice wood, not too heavy either.

Got my 444P back from the smith! It now has a Limbsaver pad, WildWest trigger ( 2.5#) and set up with scope/back up peep. Had to use a lower front sight to get peep low enough to clear scope medium rings. Also got my reloading stuff from "Joe In Florida", so after church today, Lord willing, I will load up a bunch of 250 Noslers, 300 XTP and 306 gr. HCGC, going to the range tomorrow after some business, will post results/pics afterward. Don't forget Veterans Day on Wednesday! go to the range/ gunshop or just clean/handle your firearms. "Cling to God" but have a "Firm grasp" on your "guns",lol.
