The weather wasn’t too cooperative this year. First time that I can recall seeing snow in mid October! Thankfully, it didn’t stay around too long. It was cold though with temps in the high 30’s low 40’s.

Our spirits were high though……great fellowship and lever action rifles abound!

After it snowed a bit on Saturday it started raining. Thankfully the firing line is covered but it was a bit difficult to see the targets clearly over iron sights. Some shooters decided to shoot their scoped lever actions on Saturday because of the conditions.

Sunday started out to be a pleasant day with the sun peaking through the clouds. BUT then it started getting real WINDY with winds running up to 30 mph or so!

Some shooters fired from the offhand position while others chose sitting.
Highest score fired was 21/40 which was really good considering that the shooter used iron sights to do it!

Calibers used by the participants were: .303 Savage, .30-30, .30-40  and a .44 Magnum.  The oldest rifle there was a .30-40 / 1895 Winchester that originally had belonged to this fellow’s grandfather. Neat!  The fellow with the .44 Magnum used it on the 200 meter steel chickens and then switched to the .30-30 for the rest of the targets. The highest scores were made with a .30-30 and using cast bullets at that!

Gunjunkie and his friend were on hand for Sunday’s event. It was very nice to see them.  After the festivities were over we decided to shoot at the Javelina from the Chicken line which would place them at 110 yards distant (much closer than the standard 327 yards). We sent more lead down range and the hits on the Javelina were very audible. What fun!!

For 2010, there is a good possibility that we’ll do it again in May when the weather should be more cooperative.

A few pics in the threads below.

Hi John,

Thanks for the pics, Escpecially the one of Steve.... I was over at his house yesterday, and pulled it up for him. Wished you could have seen his expression Smiley

We had just come back from Ridgeway, and just as I expected, the targets are still moving around to much, I managed to pin a few down, but for the most part, no pork for supper., and certainly no turkey, as usuall, Steve had no problem filling the freezer!

I sent you a PM... thanks for taking a look

Hi Gunjunkie,

Thankyou for the welcome, I've been reading some of the posts for awhile, and have found some very helpful articles, from some very knowledgable folks!

Hope to meet you at the range next year..

Chris,
Thank you for showing the pic to Steve. Hopefully you can make him more interested in learning how computers work!
I know what you mean about the targets moving around too much.  They are talking about making the lower range into
a NRA Cowboy Silhouette course. Hopefully that will come to pass.

Hope to see you in 2010.

John,
That would be pretty cool, having a cowboy silhouette course up this way, I'd like to give it a try, sounds like fun.

As for Steve Learning to navigate on Computers, I think he said it best  "Its like turning Fred Flintstone, into George Jetson."

But he sure can shoot!!

Take care...
