My experience with the 45-70 cartridge has been limited to "loading it for bear" out of my custom GS, and it excels at knocking down the heavy duty 4-leggers I have hunted...but I sure do enjoy reading the history of the round and how the retro guys are enjoying the nostalgia of days gone by! Thanks for the article...

I grew up going to Sandy Hook beach. The water was always cold and there's some neat military buildings there to explore, complete with canons.

I've been to Fort Hancock myself a few times. The old protective walls, the cannon, and the magazines are awesome.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I really liked the piece. Great stuff. I'm sold - my next one is soon to be a 45-70!

Someone should get that trajectory graphic embossed on a buttstock cover.
