Dubya got 500% more death threats than any other president in his 8 years; Jumpshot beat George's total death threats in less than 6 months. Sux to be him, I guess (oh, wait - did that seem unkind?).

Nothing expresses Liberty more than, the report of a rifle shot fired in the defense of Freedom.

What I have always thought about these DHS ammo orders is that it is easier for the Government to get the ammo manufacturers to commit to these (often potential) quantities for the government and thereby dry up supplies for the public than it would be to try some restrictive control that would alarm and disquiet the public during an election year. They can always take delivery and then store the ammo in empty government buildings and keep it away from the public.

It's not working - see my comment on MidwayUSA and 40 S&W after the 450 million round solicitation.

Not at all! If the truth hurts...

Too many leaders and politicians don't know how to take responsibility for their actions and their decision making (I would call it a decision-making process but there's no method to their madness). They only know how to take the easy wrong over the hard right.

And they are surrounded by smiling faces that get good at telling them what they want to hear - folks behind those faces quickly learn how much truth is acceptable to the boss, then seldom cross that line. That's fine in the private sector (even if it is poor business), but public employees have a higher obligation than making the boss happy - too few will risk being cast out by speaking truth to power.

"When democracies have gained a certain state of development, they undergo a gradual transformation, adopting the aristocratic spirit, and in many cases also the aristocratic forms, against which at the outset they struggled so fiercely. Now new accusers arise to denounce the traitors; after an era of glorious combats and inglorious power, they end by fusing with the dominant class; whereupon once more they are in their turn attacked by fresh opponents who appeal to the name of democracy." - Robert Michels, 1911
