



What do ya'll like for summertime flyfishing?
I'm not really interested in any of the trendy LLBean / Sierra Club stuff.
Just some good wading shoes or hip boots for river fishing for Smallies.

Field sports are not about targets and scores. Score-keeping is necessary in competitions between humans, unattractive in competitions with weaker adversaries. Constant scores of many to zero do not smell of struggle and chance. They smell of greed.




Anything with felt soles. Lug soled boots/shoes on moss covered rock is as slick as Slick Willy.

I just wet-wade in shorts and Teva sandals. Works fine. Yes, cold mountain streams. Feels good to me in the summer heat.
The sandals dry out in a few minutes after walking out of the water.
However complicated the issues becomes it comes down to one simple question. Which is more important to you Life or Liberty? I've made my decision long ago.

Problem is, the felt soles are being outlawed in places because they transplant micro-organisms (did I spell that right?) from one eco-system to another.
When I go to Alaska to fish next month, I can't wear my good old felt-sole fishing boots. Had to buy new boots for my waders... Doggone it.





My god, now the fly fishermen are an eco-hazard, what next ?![]()

I have wore out several pair in the last 20 years. I wade fish probably 100 days+ a year. I am fortunate to have a hunting/fishing camp on the Caddo river here in Arkansas. The algae on the rocks are very slippery and without felt soles you spend more time on your butt than fishing.
