I was at Greentops Sporting Goods in Richmond, Va. this morning, putting a couple of sale guns on layaway, after doing my business I perused the used rifle rack and came across two stainless steel Rossi "'Puma" carbines, 16" barrels, one in .454 Casul caliber, the other in .480 Ruger, both priced at $399...
The .454 Casull had the top mounted safety, and what looked like "Trueglow" sights.
The .480 Ruger had no top mounted safety, and what looked like a Lyman reciever sight with large apeture.
Both rifles looked like new...
Seemed like values to me, so I figured I'd share the info. They will do phone and internet sales. Here's a link to thier website:

I imagine the recoil of a 5.5 pound rifle chambered in .454 Casull would be brutal, but might be a handy brush hunting gun..

I might have to think about it some more...
Okay... enough thinking.
I believe I would be all over that .480 Ruger - - like flies on a turd.![]()
Now, if I could just scrounge another $400 or so...

I have a stainless Trapper like you described, and yes they are "lively" with full power 454 loads. Also have a blued 20" 454 that is a bit more civilized when she speaks. Both feed 45 colt rounds just fine and are good shooters, as much as I can tell with these old eyes.I need to get a couple of the Skinners to replace the safetys. DP

I finally got to talk to someone at Green Top. That is one busy store. The 454 got sold Friday night. I got someone on the phone Saturday morning. The 480 was still available. Well, I put it on hold and today hopefully my wife got the payment and FFL sent and the 480 Ruger is on it's way to Arkansas. I wanted them both. But I am glad I got the 480, I think from looking around, a 454 can be found fairly easy. The 480 Ruger since they have been discontinued are getting hard to find. I wish I was home to greet her, but I will not be back home for a few more weeks. Hopefully, my wife will set her close to one of my Marlins so she don't get lonely.
P.S. Thanks for the heads up canoeguy.
Lord, I'm not a violent man , but the guns in my hand !!
