Hi All, I’m new to the forum and the Rim Fire rifle world. I picked up a 795 and mounted a cheap 3x9 scope on it to teach my grandsons firearm safety and shooting. Well, now I’m hooked on this thing and want to set it up for accuracy and learn to shoot it well enough to possibly participate in our club’s small bore competition’s. I’ve done a number of searches and read a lot of the various threads but still have a few questions that I’m sure have been asked a thousand times so apologies in advance. I’m looking at the BIT drop in trigger and trigger guard as well as the MCARBO spring kit to clean up and lighten the trigger pull. I would like to add a Boyd’s stock, not sure which one, suggestions are welcomed. My old eyes aren’t what they use to be and the 3x9 just doesn’t cut it so could use some suggestions on higher powered scopes that won’t break the bank. I also wanted to ask, of which I know nothing about, is weather it really makes a difference in accuracy to free float or bed the barrel? Last question I promise, what do most feel is the most accurate ammo for the 795? Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any and all suggestions. BTW – I will be using my gun for bench rest target shooting and hopefully some competition some day.

no need to free float a 795 because the stock is plastic and boyds stocks dont come in contact with the barrel very much. free floating a wood stock increases accuracy because as humidity increases, the wood can swell and move the parrel ever so slightly. for scopes, check out leapers/utg. they are very popular in the airgun world and have even been used on center fires. i plan to get a boyds myself once i either reblue my 60 or get a second in better condition. i have my eyes on the applejack hunter and the sky SS evolution.
if i get the hunter, i'd also get a utg 4-16x50AO scope with a 1 piece mount, a bipod and a sling.

people always point out that the second amendment says nothing about hunting. i like to point out that it says nothing about need.
moron88, Thank you for the response and I like the looks of both the Hunter and SS Evo as well. I'm leaning more toward the Hunter as it will accept both my bipod and sling and from what I can see the Evo won't. The Evo LOP looks to be rather short also which is one of the things I don't like about the 795 stock, just to short. The Leaper /utg scopes look like they have potential and good reviews for a reasonable price. This inexpensive gun is going to end up costing me 4x the price of the gun itself! Thanks again for your response and suggestions.

yeah, i priced it out and i'd be putting $260 on a $100 gun. but when you consider you've increased it's usability, looks and possibly performance, it's not that much and in 20 years you'll get your money back and then some (if you're dumb enough to sell it).

I make a special trigger system for the Marlin semi-autos that I call a KAT (kick azz trigger). It lightens your trigger pull to 16oz or a little less compared to stock forces of near 80oz. It spoiled me as I can't stand the stock triggers any more. I converted 4 of my 5 Marlin semi-autos to this KAT but one I keep stock to show a potential customer the before&after comparison. Maybe you would like to try it out for 45 days?

i'm not sure what my trigger pull is but it doesnt seem too heavy and it breaks clean. i kind of prefer a heavier pull. i dont know why, i just do.

Thank you sir ! Please see response to PM.

Try the rifle before you replace the stock or free float or bed the barrel. Often it's simply not needed.
Go to your local gun shop and look through some rimfire scopes. You might find that it is quality of the glass on your inexpensive scope.

John,
Thanks for the response and recommendations. I have put approximately 500 rounds down range with this great little gun since I bought it for the grand kids!I really want to get a better scope as my old eyes ain't what they use to be, the stock just feels to short and the trigger feels like it weighs a ton. It is one heck of a shooter though and I haven't had a single issue with it. I guess I'm just one of those that likes to mod everything.
