Question Glenfield 60 Can you change spring in feed tube?

    Hi All

I am posting this question for a friend. He is having trouble with the last 2 or 3 rounds not feeding, He thinks the spring in the feeding tube has lost it strength. Can the spring be changed, and how do you get into the tube to replace it? Any suggestions on how to replace or fix this problem. He says he has this rifle for over 25 years and "it still has plenty of accuracy left in it".

    Thanks for any suggestions

He's right too. Check Brownells first, and numrichs second. If the gun is 25 years old he'll need the spring for the the twenty two and change inch long magazine. There's a shorter one on the newer guns. You get it out by driving the little locking pin out. On the older mags, where the pin only sticks out one side, you drive the pin back in towards the tube (if that makes any sense) to get it out. It's a fairly easy job. Tell him to run a couple of patches down the mag while he has it apart too. It's probably got rusty bits from the old spring in there if it's that bad.

    Pokey,
Thanks for the info. I will pass it on to my friend.
We both were looking at the pin, but I told him I would try to find out some info. before trying anything.

Reload, I've never taken a factory one apart, but a lot of the guys warn people to be cautious not to crush the tube when removing that pin. That warning implies that the part of the cap that's inside the tube is hollow. I've built a couple of them from kits, and the caps were solid, so there was no risk of crushing anything. Be careful of that just in case.
