Question about Williams FP for 39A

It appears that there are two choices of FP which I could use on my 1965 Marlin 39A.
The FP-39 seems to mount to two tapped holes in the left side of the receiver.
The FP-TM seems to mount using the forward scope mounting hole on top of the receiver.

Which is the more secure mount?
Is the side mount preferred for the older guns which have the side mounting holes?

Go with the side fp, if you want a top mount I would recommend a Skinner sight. I have the top mount and am thinking about getting rid of it, is big and bulky. I have some pictures floating around somewhere......... I'll see if I can russle them up tomorrow.

You've got it, they quit tapping the receiver for peep sights later on and Williams came up with the no-drill mount for those. You should be able to use the regular front sight with the side-mounting receiver sight, top mount may require a higher front sight. My preference is for the Lyman, myself, but those are getting pretty spendy.

Don't go bidding on any lymans until I get mine... We'll only be bidding against one another.

    Thanks for the inputs.

I have Skinner's on my 45-70 and my 30-30, and I do really like them.
I just thought I would try something different on this 1965 39A that I just purchased.
My eyes don't work with the Marlin original buckhorn sight.

I never owned a rifle until this year. Now I have 3.............
