OK:
I keep reading that Marlin has QC issues since Remington took them over.
However I have not read any particulars of these issues
or heard from anyone that actually bought one and had issues, so it is sounding more like rumors.
So whats the real Skinny ?
I'm looking at the new XT17V rifle
Failure is not an Option
Remington is suppose to send me a Marlin XT17VSFL as a trade in for a recalled Remington 597 I have been waiting 4 months and it looks like I am still waiting at least till March next year.
I wish there was a way I could get my Remington 597 back, it was a jamming gun but it was a heck of a lot better than not having a gun.
Remington is only making a few versions of there XT17s right now. They are saying that they will keep adding new models every few months.

I wish it was only rumors. You're at the right forum to find out. Check the Marlin Rant subforum for a sampling of the post factory closing problems.

A .22 magnum might be a good choice, as well. The .17 shoots a very lightweight bullet, at quite high speed. But that speed drops off very quickly, as you can imagine. It shoots 17 grain bullets, instead of the .22mag's 30-45 grain bullets. In other words, the .22 mag reaches out a bit farther and I believe the ammo is cheaper.
Costco should sell bullets in those bins, like walnuts. Or you could buy two five gallon buckets of bullets, shrink-wrapped together.

From the standpoint of chemistry, technically alcohol *is* a solution.
I have A Marlin XT-17v and I love the gun, can consistently put 10 rounds of cci tnt 17grain .17hmr ammo within a quarter sized group at 100 yards. The Hornady 17 grain v-max ammo is really inaccurate though, put a Burris Fullfield II 3x-9x-40mm on it and with the CCI ammo it is a squirrel killing machine.

Each gun is different in what ammo it really likes. My Savage 17 loves the Hornady ammo and shoots it much more accurately than the CCI stuff. In preference, my guns likes Hornady, then Federal and then CCI and Winchester tied for third place. None of them are that far apart though and any crow withing 150 yards is in a lot of trouble around my place, regardless of what is loaded. The Hornady 17 grain v-max ammo is really inaccurate though

to be honest I cant tell any difference in the different 17 grain ammo out there, all so all the 20 grain ammo shoots about the same... Now if I could just get my gun back or a replacement gun from Marlin.
