    22 mag accuracy

What you guys getting for accuracy at 100 yards with your marlin 22 magnums? I just bought a 982VS and get about 2" to 2 1/2" groups with three flavors of Winchester ammo.
It is introspective, and I want to introspect.

    Re: 22 mag accuracy

I have a Marlin model 25MN that I purchased many years ago and I have only shot it out to about 50 and accuracy was very good. I need to get it out on a date and warm her up. I will let you know how I do!

My 783 loves CCI 40gr hps. Didn't really like the Winchester stuff or 33 gr stuff for some reason. If I do my part, it shoots MOA all day. Good luck with yours. I absolutely love mine. I think it's one of the most under-rated calibers around.

I agree that it under rated, but look how long it has hung on.

    Re: 22 mag accuracy

It has always amazed me how many of these calibers (ie. 30-30, 30-06, .22mag, .38spcl etc) seem to stay around so long when so many writers and "opening-day-one-day-a-year" folks say they are obsolete, underpowered, or don't shoot straight. I've seen this little round (with hp's) put holes in rabbits that would rival .223's. Always glad to see someone else shooting it. Hope it shoots well for him.

    Re: 22 mag accuracy

I too think the 22 mag is a very under rated cartridge. The last two I had were both very accurate. The trick is to try as many different kinds of ammo as you can to see what she likes. The last one of the two I had loved the Winchester Supreme HP's and would surprise me with it's accuracy even out to 200 yards. Great cartridge.

    Re: 22 mag accuracy

Cost is the only issue I see with the .22Mag. About 30 cents a shot here and I can reload 22 hornet or even .222 cheaper than that.

    Re: 22 mag accuracy

If your only using Winchester ammo switch to other brands that the gun likes. Winchester in my Henry Lever is over an inch at 50 yards. CCI FMJ will shoot 5 shot 30 cal size one hole groups at 50. Remington Premium shoots in between the two.

    Re: 22 mag accuracy

You must try everything. Find the most accurate and then see if your gun is hindering your accuracy. In the pursuit of accuracy, don't shoot off of a bipod, use an appropriate optic, etc.

I have seven 22WMR's including two 882SSV's that will shoot .6" - .8" with ammo it likes. Frankly, I have never found Winchester to rock the accuracy standard; especialy the FMJ from WAl Mart. That stuff has been a disappointment. The JHP has been the best of the Winchester. Try CCI "TMJ" 40 grain and, Oh! for heaven's sake, don't clean your bore. Just shoot it.~Andrew

    Re: 22 mag accuracy

Mine shoots federal 737 (40 gr) and the CCI 40 gr stuff just under 2" @ 100 meters.
    The Federal 757 (50gr HPs) about 2-1/2 to 3" @ 100 meters.
