That little rabbit cost someone $19.95 back in 1962 according to Brophys' book on Marlins, since Marlin already had a pantograph carving machine for the 90th anniversary commemorative, 336 Deluxe Texan, and the 39ADL stocks they had brass masters made of other designs. A total of nine choices existed, they were longhorn steer, squirrel, mountain lion, rabbit with hound, moose, deer, grouse, duck, bear with dogs.
Early offerings were actual machine carving of the stock, later a round "cookie" with the design compressed into it was fitted into a circular recess routed into the stock.

Mr Fixit, thanks for that information, this one looks like it may have been the cookie pressed into the stock, it`s hard to tell, need a good magnifying glass, thanks again..
