    Barrel Removal

I have a Marlin Model 781 22 cal bolt action rifle and need to replace the little cartridge guide spring so the rounds feed properly. Replacement requires seperating the barrel from the receiver. After I remove the barrel retaining pin how do I seperate the barrel from the receiver? Is it screwed together? Pressed? Is there a special tool needed or a trick to it? Any help would be appreciated.

I understand that the barrel is pressed in. This may not be a do-it-yourself job.

Thanks for the help. I thought it was pressed in but not sure. I had it at a local gunsmith since October but he never got to it so I took it back. Looks like i will try returning it to Marlin to get it done.

Call Marlin and have them send you a shipping box.. it's much easier to send direct to them and back to you..

    Re: Barrel Removal

It is NOT a do it yourself job! The barrels are press fit TIGHTLY to the frame, then a pin is then pressed in as well, Also very tightly. I have a Marlin mod 60 made in 1972 the barrel came loose, I sent it to Marlin and they refit it and pressed in a new retaining pin as well for a total of $0 dollars. Amazing huh? They even paid the return shipping!
