I am very new at shooting so sorry for the silly question.
As i plan to do more competitive paper target shooting (gallery rifle) this will involve timed sections eg. 12 in 2 minutes with a reload. what is the most efficient way to reload a marlin lever action rifle.
Currently i am inserting a round part way holding this in with the hand (ring and middle finger) that is holding the rifle and then pushing the next round in with my other hand. This keeps the gate open so that i don't have to push the gate open with every round. I hope this makes sense.
Is there a faster way?
no speed loading tubes...
**sorry typo in the title. Hi all...**

I would say, you have the idea, just get the shell almost to the rim and stuff it in with the next round, and just keep doin it that way. Does this make sense to you? I can try to explain better if needed...

Dave, you're loading just as most folks do. Lever actions aren't really set up for quick reload, but that doesn't mean you can't do the best you can. Will your competion allow topping off the mag tube as you go, or are you restricted to one reload? If you can top off, get yourself a shell holder you can tie onto your stock so they'll be right there and handy.

Now there's no more oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal

Dave,
Are you loading everything on the clock or starting with 10 in the mag and loading 2 on the clock?
Fastest way I know to do that, if legal, is to load straight into ejection port after shooting number ten. Just hold lever open and drop in round #11, close, fire, open, drop in #12, repeat.

6 in the tube (carbine i have access to only has space for 6) and i think i can reload as i go. as long as i get a reload in there. so i am thinking, load 6 (full magazine) and the one at a time in the ejection port seems to be the best compromise but i will have to check with the RO to ensure i don't break the rules...
As i don't have a firearms licence or my own rifle and therefore very limited range time. I have to pre visualise every step then refine at the range. i find this a great way of learning or at least understanding the process of breath control trigger control ect ect..
What happens when i have a full or part full magazine and then load one in the ejection port, does'nt the feed mechanism try and feed the next round giving a double feed and a possible jam?
