Friend of mine bought one in a 25-06 he hasn't shot much and wanted me to shoot it cause it was shooting 5 inch groups at 100 yards. I shot it with the Winchester shells he had, and yep 5 inches was all it would do. I checked it out all over and couldn't find anything glaringly wrong and the trigger was terrific. We bought some Federal Premiums for it and it shot .80 inches at 100 yards gun is a tack driver.

My axis 223 shoots well. I have no targets to post but it shoots well. Drilled a turkey at 100 yards last spring. My purchase came with a $50 rebate.

A shooting buddy of mine got a 308 Savage Axis for $260.He purchased a primary arms 4-14x44 scope for $229.Then he put a $100 timney trigger in it.Got a caldwell vibration dampener and filled the hollow plastic stock with lead weights.
He is now keeping up with us guys who have the more expensive rigs.He gets 1/2" groups at 100 yrds. And is hitting a 6" piece of steel consistently at 650 yrds.
Not a glamorous setup, but I am impressed with Savage.

I sighted in one for a guy this year. It was pretty dang
accurate. Think it was a 270 if I remember correctly.
I'm not a new rifle guy, but I don't fault folks for buying
them. If it works, it works.

The Axis II is the best way to go if getting one of the Axis models. The hard wood stock is not going to flex like those flimsy plastic stocks on the standard models and will be easier to glass bed if you decide to do that. I have a standard model in 223 that I worked with the trigger until I got it to right at 3lb and it shoots under 3/4" with several loads. It likes the 40gr. V-Max bullet even though the twist is 1:9". I painted that ugly black stock to make it look a little better. I may sell mine as I bought a Tikka 223 that shoots a little better and has a wonderful trigger on it. The Tikka is a little better in accuracy and more refined but cost double. The Axis is a better "truck gun" being shorter than the Tikka. Here is my Axis painted and my friends in black. He has since got me to do his like mine.
