My 5-shot launch average was 3557 fps. "Shooter" calculates at 1,000
    Vel: 1319.2 fps
    Energy: 336.2 ft-lbs

Interesting, used to have a Col friend who invited me to Camp Grayling, Michigan to their 1000 yd range, naturally I worked the range for a few hours spotting the targets. One of the shooters had a .308 very accurate but shot a minimal load. I do wish back then I had a digital camera, about 50% of the time the bullet would not fully penatrate the very thick target backing. Seeing a bullet sticking out of them targets was just something beyond comprehension. Used to varmit with a 25-06 and had a few 600 plus kills but none at that range. Since I've went to a 7/06 (.100 shorter than a .280 Rem only difference) Shooting 120s, 140s, or 160s it does well at the longer ranges. For 1000 I would work with the 175s if needed.

    Hey Ray,

That would be the 30-06, necked down to 7mm. If one does the AI mod, one rivals the 7mm Weatherby, in velocity.

Pretty good with a 3-9 scope. My guess is that reticle darn near covered 6-8" at that range so accurate hold would be tough.

18" is about 1.8 MOA. Just guessing your 25-06 was a MOA shooter @100 yards and the rest was sighting, wind, mirage etc. I think you did good.

I regularly shoot @1,000 yards with a 6MM Dasher cartridge and 42X Nightforce scope. Normally hit 8-12, 8" gongs for every 15 shots. Only group I tried was just over 7" under rather windy conditions.

    You did good.

Wow! That is some great shooting for a 3-9 scope! Imagine it would do okay with some heavier bullets and a little more magnification. I have a 25-06 I haven't done much with yet, but once I figure out the 115 BT, I think I would like to go long with it! Great read.
