I have a new Remington 700 SPS in 300 RUM I am going to firelap. I have a NECO bullet kit on the way, hopefully it will have load dat. If not, who can suggest a load that would push a bullet about 2500 fps out of this big case?

Might be able to find some on line data.

Thanks Janott- I did just that, seems 5744 is the powder to use. This is a foul weather companion to my custom Rem 721 in 7mm RUM...a rifle that is far too pretty for most hunts,ha!

Saw a friend shoot a couple of buffalo with the 7mm RUM the first week of March.

Ta-Daa, I had "interpolated" a load from some sources, and came up with 40 grains of 5744. I had ordered a set of Lee dies, and on the little paper instruction/load data sheet was...starting load, 40 grains of 5744! Now I feel better about it. I also am thankful for my Army FDC training! That was when we used slide rules and manuals. Did a lot of "interpolating" for those 8 inchers in Graf!
I am always leery of reduced loads in these big RUM cases, seems a little too close to a "pipe bomb", ha.

Glad it worked out for you, you should show some oictures of your rifle and some targets with information and data when you get done.![]()

Finally got to the range to firelap this Mod 700 SPS. I only used 4 each of the Coarse/Med 7rds/400 grit and 3 rds of the polish. Between each grit I cleaned rifle with Eliminator Bore solvent. The 40 gr 5744 shot around 1.5" at 100, high and left of a factory load. When done, bore was real shiny.
I then did a rough zero of 3" high at 100 with these Nosler 180 partitions factory loads. I got it set in about 3 shots. I am glad this light little rifle has a muzzlebarke on it! It's not bad, but you better hold your mought right, ha. Next week, this range has the 300yd open on one day, so Lord Willing I can use the benchrest and get it dialed in at 300. Then, I just replace my CDC dial and later go out to the desert, see if I can hit anything waaay out there ( or if this is just a gimmick turret,ha) No pics today, it was busy out there.

You seriously should look in to the 200 grain bullets for your long range work with this rifle. The 180 should be also good like it is for the 300WM but with more velosity the 200 might just be the ticket for the RUM.![]()

Those recoil levels would cause me to hold my thoughts!! Not to mention, holding my mouth right - LOL! Those long shots should be a blast! No pun intended....

I didn't clock these Nosler loads, but they are pretty warm! I found 4 boxes of them on sale a few months ago at a ridiculously low price. I thouhgt, "Hey, I can use them for hunting right now and load this nice Nosler brass later. I worked up a good load for my SIL's 300RUM using the Nosler 200 Accubond, that's all he uses, 3175 fps, sub .5" groups. This is on a tricked out Shilen barreled custom Model 700 I had made up for him while he was on his last tour in Iraq. I did buy a box of the HSM ammo with the Berger 210 VLDs to try later. They look wicked!
