    Cast lead bullets in 30-06?

Well I am i want to know if i can use cast lead bullets in my 30-06 bolt gun?
Can I use cast 30-30 bullets in the the 30-06 case?
Jacketed bullets are getting too exspensive and want a more cost effective way to reload 30-06 target ammo.

    Yes and yes to both.

Not at full power jacketed velocities with good accuracy, but you will do very well at lower velocities approximating a 30-30 or even somewhat lower speeds down to that of a .22 long rifle.

You really can't substitute it with a bullet for a full jacketed powder charge, if that's what you're contemplating, without some loss of accuracy as compared to the jacketed bullet, but if lower speeds with very good accuracy is your thing then the cast bullet is very suitable. The newbie can't simply cap a 170 grain lead bullet over his full power 180 grain jacketed charge and expect jacketed bullet accuracy, as you won't get it.

There's a bit more to it than that, but with some knowledge, and cast bullet use instills plenty of that! you'll do well.

I’m shooting the Lee C312-155-2R in my M 700. It’s a 155gr gas check bullet and last year I was running it at 2300fps, no problems…Correct bullet size is the key…

    EDIT - 2300fps

I'm going to be loading the lyman 311041 out of my P17 over 2400 to make a fun load to shoot. Lymans manuals give data for this combo. Proper size is key.

No problem Go to the Lodge under Paper Patched Bullets. Push them as they were a jacketed bullet

I’m sizing .311” …I do not recommend this to start as each chamber/throat is different and need room for bullet release, but this size works excellent for me…

2400 is a good powder for the mid range loads…For a bit more velocity, I’m using H4895 as I was looking for a M1 Garand load…

I can shoot MOA with my Win M70 and the Lee C309-160R (sized at .309"), with IMR3130, Fed 120 primers and .5 gr of polyfil. It's a gas-checked boolit at 1850 fps. So, in answer to your question, yes!
