Has anyone loaded the Hawk 250 grain FP in the 35 Rem or the 190 grain FP in the 30-30? If so results? Thanks, Bob

My 336's favorite 30-30 load is 190 Hawk, Hornady cases ( fired LE rds) Fed 215M and 30 gr. H335. 2.55" LFCD crimped hard.I have fired groups as small as .45, but average .75", no joke! One significant note; crimping this soft bullet "squeezes" it just long enough to have it slightly engraved with rifling upon chambering. It shoots so good, I ain't changing it, ha. I "should have" checked the OL, but now I am not bothering with it. Load & shoot! The Hornady cases also have the tightest primer pockets I've ever experienced in 37 yrs of handloading! I can barely seat primers flush with a Lee handprimer. The WW cases did not group as tight with this load either, but favored for the Nosler 170's use.
I have not clocked this round, but it is MAX is my rifle. No game killed yet, but I like the "Savage 303" history! I just like heavy bullets when a rifle will handle them. It also loves the old fashioned Nosler 170 Solid Bases with 32 grains of Varget.

Wow Preacher that 190 Hawk load sounds good.I use my 30-30 mostly on Moose and bears and that load would work great.I carry it on my trapline when building trail and we have quite a few grizzlies around so a heavy bullit is good.If I can find a 35 Rem I am going to try the 250 gr. Hawk FP. Bob

I talked with a rep at Hawk's before i bought the 190's. He said it penetrated better than their 200 gr. The .303 Savage ( basically a 30-30 with a 190gr bullet that started at .311 but quickly went to .308 diamter) back when was considered a better killer than the standard 30-30/170 load, at least in canada and Yukon I was told. I think it would put the hurt on just about anything!

What big game do you intend to shoot with that bullet? Penetration is not an issue with deer, some 170's and heavier bullets can over penetrate and fail to expand properly.

What game do I intend to shoot with these 190 Hawks? Mule deer, cow elk, big hogs. Nothing I can't kill with a 150 Remington Corelokt, but look at it this way...I'm probably the only one on the mountain with that load, ha. The hawks are pure lead/copper, they always wad up. It's just a "nostalgia thing""for me.
