170 Grain 30-30 Bullet For Reloading

What is your favorite 170 grain 30-30 bullet for reloading?

I’ve been concentrating on finding the best managed recoil round for practicing at the range. I’m pretty much set on the Sierra 125 grain HPFN. I still need to find the optimum powder charge for the most accurate reduced load and for the most accurate whitetail hunting round.

I’m so impressed with how my 336 shoots the factory 170 grain Power-Shok’s and Power Points that I want to find a great 170 grain bullet to load for hog hunting. What 170 grain bullets do you reload with that y’all have found shoot very accurately out of your 336’s?

I want to try the Nosler Partition bullets and what other reloaders find to be very accurate in their guns. I know many MO readers like Remington Core-Lokt bullets but my 336 doesn’t shoot the factory Core-Lokt ammo very accurately. I assume the reloads will perform about the same but if that is what works best in your gun then I want to hear about it especially if your reloads work better than the factory rounds.

I have had good luck with Hornadys 170 gr Interlock JSPs.

When I first got my Marlin 336 in 30-30, I bought a box of each of the following; Winchester, Federal and Remington...all 170 gr ammo. At 60 yards, they all shot about the same...1 1/2 groups. I developed a handload using IMR 3031 and Remington 170 CL's. That same gun now puts those 170 Rem's one ragged hole at 60 yards !!

I also loaded up some 125gr Sierra hp's with 3031 but have not yet shot those. Waiting for warmer weather.

I have been using the 170 gr Speer bullet. I bought some of the Hornady 160 gr FTX bullets and will give them a try next season. My gun actually likes Federal 170 gr factory loads.

My .30.30's fires the Rem 170 RNCL like a duck takes to water.

I can't remember how many deer, turkey and pigs I have taken over the years with this bullet.

My 336 loves the Winchester 170grn SilverTips. I used to use Speers but when I tried the ST's as an experiment, my accuracy almost doubled! Crazy but true.
