    Most versatile powders

if you were limited to just 2 kinds of rifle powder and 2 kinds of pistol powder which would you pick? Assume you had a very wide range of cartridges to feed. So what do you say?
    336C 30-30, 336A 30-30, 336CS 35 Rem, 336SS LTD 35 Rem,1895 45-70, 1895 LTDIII 45-70, 1895G 45-70, 39TDS, 444, 1894cl 32-20, 1894 357, 1894s 44, 308mx, 1895M, MR-7 270, 795, 880SQ

If I could only have two (for pistol loads) I'd choose Unique, and Bullseye. Trail boss is a pretty versatile pistol powder but most relegate it to the cowboy action cast lead bullet world, But a quick search around the web will show you folks using it in lots of rifle loads.

As far as rifle powders go, without a doubt Varget for one my second choice would likely be something like IMR4895, but as long as I had Varget I can reload anything from 222 up to my 444, and not just a "get me by" load either. Varget is a very versitile powder.

I have a very wide range of pistol and rifle cartridges and I currently have 12 pistol and 22 rifle powders on hand. Not that I would like it, but I could get by with Titegroup and H110 for pistol, Varget and H4350 for Rifle. I don't think I could live without Varget.

For me it is very simple if I had to I could make due with one of each. Unique for pistol as it has always been great in 38 spl and 45 acp as well as some nice sissy loads in the 45/70. For rifle I would have to go with Varget as it gives me 1/2 moa in 223 and 308. I'm still trying to work up a load in 45/70 but so far it is looking very promising.

I thought I might add, according to Hogdon's website, Varget is "extremely insensitive to hot/cold temperature changes" so I would venture to suggest that it keeps good. That being said, as well as it being versitile as it is, I would think it would be something good to stock up on. I already have.

It would have to be H4895 and H335 for rifles. Unique and H110 for pistols.

another vote for Unique and 2400 for the handguns. Being new to rifle loads, I'll just say I chose IMR4895 to start with (.30/30)
