Hey All,
I am in Florida and I am trying to plan a black bear hunt for me and my dad and have been looking in anywhere in the south east area. I have been told that North Carolina is the place to go for big bear.
Has anyone been on a black bear hunt recently that could give any reconmendations. I have Googled until my brain is fried and I am no closer to booking a hunt than when I started. I dont want to lay down my hard earned cash and "hope' for the best only to be disappointed. I am open to any and all suggestions.
Thanks,
Devil_Dog

Well Devil Dog.........Since you are open to all suggestions............I am going to SE Alaska with my step dad this spring.I am not sure how many hunters they take, they might be booked. This is not a "bargain Basement" hunt.I met and spoke with one of the principals in person. We hit it off pretty well and he had pictures to back up his words.Keep in mind that I have NOT ben there yet,but for some reason I feel pretty good about the people and thier claims.I was told that last years spring hunt they took 8 hunters and all eight took thier bears.SIX of those 8 made the record book(didnt ask what book) in one or more "categories"These are coastal black bears that I am told are larger than inland bears because they have more plentiful and nutritious food sources for most of the year.I was told that "You will see alot of bears".And that most hunters take thier bear days before the hunt is "over" Like I said,I cant tell you from experience and hesitated to even post, but it looks like there arent too many that DO have first hand knowledge that have posted. I will However be able to tell you after June 5th!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you would like contact info for them send me a pm and I will be glad to provide it for you. I hope you and your dad have a great hunt

Take your time, do not get rushed. Check out all answers from the guide/outfitter. The last thang you want is after paying for a hunt to be told " well it is the luck of the draw" if no bears are working your bate. Check references with hunters who did not fill a tag as well as ones who did. It is easy to get some one who killed a bear to give you a great report. I do not expect a gurantee of a bear, but I do expect the guide to put out a amount of effort for the hunter. That said my last hunt ( in Canadia) when ask if the guide wanted a tip, being given the usual " tips are not expected but are acepted" was told by our party " find a new line of work you suck as a guide".

If someone does the legwork and research and wants a group hunt like I do for Hawgfest each year, PLEASE let me know VIA E-MAIL OR PM as I WANT to hunt black bear.
Thanks,

Dave I would be interested, what type of hunt would you be interested in? Spot and stalk in Washington State, or over bait, or with dogs in Maine....These are what I've been looking at but I'm open for suggestions

My hips and knees are so bad I need bait. One falla started putting together a Black Bear hunt here last year or maybe a couple of years back but after a while just quit on the thing due to personal stuff. A couple of our illustrious members did go on a black bear hunt but the guide turned out to be not much more than a crook in my book though they never said so.Originally Posted by Levercrazed
I always wanted to hunt hawgs with dogs but, as I stated above the knees and hips won't let this old phart welder do such great things any longer but I can still shoot straight.
I'll do a write-up on our just completed Hawgfest V in a day or two, but first I will let the hawg hunters tell their tales before I expose them all.![]()
