This scope is labeled for Shotgun/Muzzleloader use, but would it work for a 336? I am sure it will, just wanted to check in to see what others think. Anyone have a familiarity with this model? Any comments? Any comments on the reticle, Heavy Duplex? I am serious considering this. Although, if I had $100 more, I would get the VII in a heartbeat. Thanks in advanced.
That's a nice scope for sure. I was thinking about getting one myself. I just got a Redfield Revolution 2-7x33.
I like it a lot. I had a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5 on my 336. It's a decent little scope. However, I wanted a little more magnification.
Don't know what it's like where you hunt. For me the 1-4 would work fine in the woods. In fact, I wouldn't need anymore. But, there are times when a little more power would be nice. That's why I went with the Redfield.
Just a thought. That Leupold will work just fine.

Here's one mounted on an 1895 and another on a BLR in .358. Think I like it?I think the HD (heavy duplex) reticle it has is one of the very best for short - medium range hunting scopes.
Go for it!!

Well, that is the thing. I've been starting to hunt out in Burnet, and I am in the brush thicket. Max shot is at 150 yards, and I am thinking that 1-4 would be just about right for me.Originally Posted by Oberhaz
Thanks! Do you feel taking a shot at 200 yards with this reticle might hinder viewing a little? BTW, what is the paralex on this model, 100 yards? Thanks!!Originally Posted by 336ER
I'd not hesitate to take a 200 yd shot with this scope on deer-sized game. It's steady, careful placement of a scope's reticle on the target (deer) not extra magnification that makes a successful shot, IMO. The parallax is set at 75 yds, if I'm not mistaken. I also own two 2-7x33 Leupold SG scopes with the same reticle and an older Leupold Vari-XII 2-7x33 that I had the reticle refitted by Leupold into. I have no problem sighting in at the range with this type reticle either. I've fired sub MOA 3 shot groups with that 1895 and scope combo with 325gr LE ammo.Originally Posted by GarMan

I have that Leupold scope mounted on a couple of big bore DGR and they have never caused me a problem yet, some 500 rounds of bullets down the barrel of each. I have shot these rifles at 200 yards in calibers .416 Rem mag and the .375-Wby.
I bought one of those 1-4x20 Leupold shotgun scopes last year for my Marlin .30-30 and ended up sending it back to Cabela's. I was very disapponted in it's poor light gathering ability and lack of clarity/ resolution after closely comparing it under many different lighting conditions to the Weaver K-2.5 that has been on my .30-30 for the past 10 years. Plainly put, the Weaver very clearly kicked the snot out of the Leupold {had the Leup set at 2.5X for comparson} in light gathering ability and sharpness/clarity of image under any and all lighting conditions imaginable.
I got a VXII 1-4x20.
I think that might be good for my new-to-me 336T.
