    Millet, any good ??

I just seen Midway has a Tactical 50MM Millet scope on sale( front cover of march flyer). I was thinking of it for a Mauser conversion I am working on( 8MM-06AI), it is about $300.00 which compared to the same scope other places is cheaper. I am just not sure how good they are because I have never had one. I want a large optic 50MM or bigger with easy adjustments for 200 to 400 yds, if you have any other ideas. I cannot afford a 8 or 9 hundred dollar scope, would like to stay under $300.00 if possible.

MULEMAN, when you buy a scope, you pays your money and you takes your chances. Have you had a look at benchrest.com? Try to find a scope thread on the Centre-fire benchrest forum. The things they do to make scopes reliable will open your eyes. Or you could spend thousands on a March. Sorry to spoil your dreams, mate. I can imagine that you might want to rethink things from here.
    Good luck!

If I understand all of this right they are against scopes with adjustments, sighting them as unrelaible correct. So I will ask again, what would you get in the $300.00 range for a max 400yd range bolt gun. I really want a large reticle to allow as much light as possible for early morning and late evening shooting and I think I want more than a 9x but don't think I need to start higher than around 6x. Thanks for any additional info.

    Re: Millet, any good ??

I have only dealt with Millet Scopes once. I did not own it but a friend did. I found it to be less than I would own. Clarity was not there.

Not sure what is out there for 300 bucks but even the standard 3 x 9 should be good for the distance you are wanting.

    Check out the new Redfield 4 X 12 X 40 or the 3 X 9 X 50 . They can be had with a ranging reticle. I did look at the Redfield 3 X 9 X 40 and found it to be very clear. 4 X 12 for $220 and the 3 X 9 X 50 for $210.

Get a Zeiss. They have excellent quality optics. The Conquest is made in the USA

If you want a low cost, good quality, made in USA scope, try a Redfield. They are owned by Leupold. But they are on backorder at most stores because everyone wants one.

    Re: Millet, any good ??

+1 on the Zeiss. I have a 3x9x40 Conquest on a 300 Ultra Mag. Before I purchased it I compared it side by side with other higher end scopes like the Leupold VXIII and Bushnell 4200. The Zeiss is clearly brighter and clearer. It also has a constant, long (5" I think) eye relief throughout the power zoom range.

When I got it I figured I'll only buy one scope this good in my whole life. If you're going to spend $300 why not go $99 more.

I have shot it at the 400 yard range on Quebec carribou but didn't need more than 6X to get the job done.

    Re: Millet, any good ??

I asked the question last year and didn't get much for an answer either . I got the Buck Gold 3.5 x 10 x 50 , not sure of the price as it was part of a trade but it was new in the box . The optics are very clear about the same as some of my Burris scopes and I tried it out on a Weatherby 7mm mag . It holds up to the recoil and maintains its zero and 300 yard shots at the range are within one inch shooting prone with a bipod . Hope this helps .
