New here to this forum and wanting to know what kind of accuracy are you all getting in the 35 Whelen.
Hi Javman, and welcome from Bundaberg, Australia. I like the 35 Whelan, I have used a friends rifle in that calbre. Unfortunately my friend only used factory cartidges but I am sure someone will come along shortly and help you with you enquiry.

THE OLDER I GET THE BETTER I WAS.
javman, I have two .35 Whelens, both bolt guns and the accuracy from each is terrific. With loads they like three shot groups @ 100 yards are well under an inch. I have a 7mm-08 in
a Handi Rifle and it shot better after I shimmed the forend swivel stud with a rubber "O" ring. I read it on a sticky here or Greybeard's Outdoors and that tip cut my groups by 30 %.
Thump em with a .35 caliber and they stay
thumped. Team 35 member #17. Team 30-30 member # 98. Team .32 Special #5. NRA Life Member. USN 7/10/69 - 12/6/73. Operation Homecoming Staff, Clark Air Base, Philippines.

I sure like the .35 Whelen, performs great every time I've taken game with it. I have 3 - a Remington 700 CDL, and 2 auto-loaders - the 7400 and 750 carbine. 310gr 35 caliber bullets are available, and my rifles get reasonable accuracy using the round soft nose bullets (2" groups at 100 yards) even though a 1 in 12" or 14" rate of twist is needed to stabilize these bullets according to Woodleigh.
However, my rifles won't stabilize the 310gr FMJ bullets, so the 1 in 16" rate of twist, which my Remingtons have, isn't fast enough for the longer FMJ bullets. I wonder what your Handi-Rifle has for a rate of twist?
Welcome to the forum jayman... I have a Whelen built on a '98 action. It will shoot one inch groups at 100yes, if I do my part. Since we don't have anything bigger than Whitetail deer here in the midwest all I use are 180 and 200gr bullets. My all around bullet is the Hornady 200gr SP @ 2500fps. Good luck with your Whelen.
