I'm new here been reading some threads and posts, intresting Forum.
I have a Sears 20 gauge single shot the serial # starts with CE65XXX. Will an H&R pistol caliber rifle barrel work on this action like a 357 mag or a 44 mag?

A pistol barrel is under 16" which opens up a whole can of ATF worms, did you mean a 'pistol caliber' barrel? AC
I do not know if it will cross breed or not. You may find someone with an H&R shotgun or rifle and see if the lug will fit or not. I have an old stevens and without serious mods it will not fit. You could probably stub it, but the money you would have tied up in it. You would be money ahead to pick up a new H&R about $269 around here.
I don't think it would work. Sears stopped selling guns in 1980 so your shotgun is at least 30 years old or older. As mentioned the lockup latch may be different as well as the forearm attachment lug and I believe the action is not even as strong as the SB1 actions of today so pressure may be a issue. Last but not least, the firing pin on shotguns is larger in diameter than those on center fire cartridge guns. This has created problems with pierced primers with rifle barrels on shotgun actions. The combo guns today with a shotgun and rifle barrel have the smaller diameter firing pin which alleviates the problems.
Sears was never a manufacturer, only a marketer. A cross-reference of the model number most likely would reveal the actual maker, which someone would have to do if parts were needed. Mainly, as others have pointed out, it just ain't worth the trouble, even if you have the necessary tooling to do a stub job you would still have troubles with the primer cratering around the firing pin. Go buy you a Handi-Rifle in the caliber you want and you can always send it in for extra barrels. Another thought, all of those old single shot shotguns had cast iron frames which makes them questionable for higher pressure cartridges. Goat
Thanks guys, it looks like I am in the market for an H&R single shot in 357 mag or a 44 mag. Are there any for sale here on this site.
I finally found a number for H&R and they said they did make my shotgun but said it was to old ( made befor 1987 ) to fit a barrel to it. Thanks everyone.
