I need a parts web site for this Westernfield Montgomery Ward 865A which was made by Mossberg. It is listed as a Mossberg 402A.
It is a straight shooter however it will fail to fire about once every 15-16 rounds for about 4-5 then will fire until the next cycle begins.
I use it to protect my garden from ground squirrels & crows with CB Shorts. My 444P disrupts the flow and lifestyle of our rural neighborhood.
Any clues as to what might be need replaced would help.
Thanks in advance.
That model mossberg is super rare, at least in this part of the country.
Here is a exploded view. The old time parts diagrams were not like the modern ones. They figured the guy was actually a gunsmith, and did not need to see how things fit together in a picture.
I suspect the main spring is weak. I doubt one will be found, so a close imitation might have to be used. Or depending on how much its been shot, headspace problems might be appearing.
Does it occur to those that believe that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, may be because that guy takes the time to take care of his grass?
I had a similar problem with mine and the problem was the firing pin was worn. A new firing pin fixed the problem.
