Dangerous Dan and WYcoyote,
Thanks guys! You saved me some (future) embarassment and maybe more!
I was having sugar plum ferry thoughts about my pre-fit .338-06 moving from a Savage to my Marlin.
Now I have a bit more to ponder.
If you have a pre-fit (for Savage) breech trimmed for the Marlin extractor ........ does that preclude switching it back to a Savage?
Would you then lose needed chamber support in the Savage?
Thanks in advance
DD would be much more qualified to answer that than me.
I have a guess but will keep it to myself for now.
Thank you WYcoyote!
I appreciate your candor!!
I ordered the barrel for to fit the marlin just take off old barrel and put on new using a go gauge http://www.mcgowenbarrel.com/catalog4.htm. I sent an E-mail telling them what I wanted because their order form is not what it should be. took about 7 weeks to get it after ordering.
Will they also fit the barrel. I want a 25-06 with a 26 inch barrel also and just cant do the 22 standard barrel. Have a 270 x gun and would like to get it done. What was your final cost
Does anyone know if the barrels trimmed to fit a Marlin can then be re-used on the Savage?Originally Posted by Three44s
To be clear:
Whether or not anything needs to be trimmed is a matter of individual bolt head and bbl measurements. Some may need to be trimmed, whereas others may/will not.
My 25-06 swaps with a Savage barrel I have with no trimming required.
Yes, they are the same thread and diameter. Savage barrel nuts use the same wrench as well.
I'm a firm believer in the theory that "If it bleeds, I can kill it"
Would have to contact them to see
