    25-06 Sight in opinion

I hope that some of the guys that shoot the 25-06 will chime in here. I had my 25-06 sighted 2.5" high at 100 yards for a MPBR of 320 yards give or take 5 yards. This put me 3" high at 150 yards.

I am thinking I might sight in for a 200 yards zero with this scope, and if I have that back fence line shot again holding high on the shoulder now that I have a scope with enough power on my '06 to hold that tight.

    What are your opinions please?

200 yard zero or go for MPBR?

    I always had mine 2.5" high at 100 yards...MPBR.

With most 117 grain boat tail loads that will have you 3.5" low at 300 yards...whats not to love about that (point and shoot out to 300 yards)

I agree, but I missed a coyote this year while on my stand. He was around 150, and I did not compensate for the elevation. I went for a ear shot, and missed high. This time after much thinking I think a 200 yard zero is good, and that should give me a 260 yard 3.5" low. If the deer is at 300 yards or a little over, my longest shot, I can just hold high on the shoulder and come off with a good boiler room hit.
This will leave my good for for those surprise predator encounters. Those smaller targets make a MPBR a nightmare to remember.

I like 'em at MPBR, sighted in at about 300 yards. Same as my other fast-moving longer range rifle, a 7mm Rem mag. Hits at 400 yards are very easy, holding on hair... Closer? Just hold low.

If I was hunting somewhere that shorter 200 - 250 yard max shots were the norm, I'd go with a shorter range zero.

Tailor it to what you want, depending on the game you're hunting and the ranges you expect to shoot.

    Regards, Guy

I hunt New England and a 200 yard shot would be about as far as it gets. Most shots are 40-125 yard ranges. I dial mine in for a 200 yard zero.

    Re: 25-06 Sight in opinion

I dialed it in for a 200 yards zero. I am about 1 1/2 inches high @100 yards. if a back fence line shot appears then I will just hold a little high. My anticipation for the 200 yards zero is after rifle season for deer. We are going to do a lot of coyote hunting, and those little buggers are quick, and I have yet to have one come out on me past 200 yards. Most are around 100 yards to 150 yards.

I feel that I want a dead on shot out to 200 yards. Being within 1 1/2" at 100 yards is fine. It is when you get to 3" @ 150 that it really makes a difference in those quick moments that you see a dog run out on you. I wanna throw up and bang'em dead.

I've also always gone with the 1.5" high at 100 yds. and never really had any problems. I use my 06 as a dual purpose gun. I live in Virginia and hunt whitetails on farmland usually 150 to 300 yd. shots and whistlepigs(groundhogs) at sometimes even longer ranges. I find it easier to compensate with a little hold over on the long shots than having to think about how low to hold on closer shots.
