greater choice of bullets in the .30-'06. I too have both but the .30-'06 is my go-to gun.

I have both. The 06 only gets out of the safe for elk or black bear for which I prefer a heavier tougher bullet. The .270 is the same class cartridge but picks up velocity with lighter bullets and works fine on coyotes at a little longer range. For deer and coyotes the .270 is about as good as it gets. If you should get a chance to hunt elk the .270 with a Nosler 150grain or 165 grain still gets the job done properly.
I own both (well the 270 is a Ruger American). I like them both, but you have more options with the .30-06. The difference in recoil is very little.
Making the shot is your job and if you do that important part....nothing and I mean nothing that you chose to harvest will ever know the difference sir. Good shooting and God Bless!
While I'm more of a 30-06 fan, during the recent ammo shortage, I've seen a lot more 270 ammo available on shelves. Almost enough for me to consider picking one up.

I still give an edge to the .308 Winchester because it is generally more accurate than the .30-06 with a bit less recoil, and you can still use all the .30 bullets on the market. A .308 with match bullets would be super for coyotes.
I love the 270 caliber...the. 30-06 is also good,it was my 1st rifle but I went down to 270 bcoz my back pain I can handle the 270 better
Sure it will. You ever use a .270 or are you just guessing? Better yet perhaps you have a friend who told you all about the .270 LOL. I've spent my life hunting between these two cartridges (.270 and .30-06) and have yet to notice a difference in killing power. But that's no surprise as the gunwriter John Barsness has killed hundreds of animals with both cartridges on several continents and he said he still hasn't noticed a difference in killing power. What one will do the other does.
