    Federal Deer Thug ammo

So in Walmart the other day and noticed that they had a ton of Federal "Deer Thug" ammo in various calibers, including my 243. I noticed the box said it was a 90gr bonded soft point, although it was only $20 bucks a box. There is no information on this ammo anywhere on Federal's website, they don't even offer a load with a 90gr bonded sp. Fusion also has nothing like this, their 243 is moly coated... So I have no info. on this other than what the box shows.

With the help of some friends I was able to buy all 4 boxes, and boy am I glad I did...

I have to brag about this one and I'm hoping I can find more! This is from 100yrds!

I couldn't have said it better. I too hate the stupid names that some of the shooting industry comes up for their products.

I picked up 2 boxes of it in 30-30. I haven't shot it yet, I hope it's as accurate as your .243 is . I was looking for the regular Federal Blue Box. Maybe this has replaced it?

I also picked some up for my 30-30 but haven't shot it yet. The guy at walmart said that's all they've been getting from Federal lately, rather than the blue powershok. I just wish Federal had info. about the bullet on their webpage. I'm curious which bullet it is...

Price is the same as they charged for the regular powershok. This box also says powershok on it, however they also use a bonded bullet, whereas the standard powershok bullet was a cup/core... It's definately a different round... Especially since you can't find a 90gr bonded round in .243 on their website.

I bought four boxes of this in .30-30 150 and four in 170 grain. I already had some regular PowerShok 150 grain. I went to the 100 yard range to zero in my 336C and Buckmaster 3x9 40mm scope. I was amazed at how different non-bonded and bonded 150 grain rounds were. Once I zeroed using the Deer Thugs Bonded 150 grains, I shot some of the regular PowerShoks. They hit about 4" up and 2" to the left. The 170 grain Deer Thugs were hitting much higher than the 150 grain Deer Thugs.

Overall, I am pleased with the Deer Thugs. My best four shot group using the 150 grains is attached. I was shooting at one of the small diamond targets. It was pretty windy. The range owner had removed all the sand bags, so I was trying to use my range bag and a tool bag for rests.

Those deer thugs sure look alot like Federal Fusions. There is a place out west "Rocky Mountain Reloaders" that sells "pulls". For anyone that reloads,
I picked up 500 bullets for $85 shipped for my XL7 25/06. They are the FUSION bullets. Loaded on top of imr4350 I got a 3 hole group at 100 yds that fit under a nickel

    Great bullets!

I picked up a box of those in .243 couple months ago for my sons youth model .243, they shoot great in his rifle. If he hasn't shot then all buy deer season , he will be hunting with them.
