This is from Gary Reeders sight about marlin

** A little clarification about Marlin here. A while back I mentioned that they had closed their doors and I was hoping it wasn’t for good. Well, I was somewhat right.* The Freedom Group’s factory rep was in the shop a few days ago and gave me the scoop on all the things that are going on with the company. Marlin also has a plant in Kentucky and this plant is where the bolt action guns are being made. They have new equipment and all is going well there. They are cranking out new rifles on a regular basis and the quality is fine. The problem was in their New York plant. The equipment for making the 1894 and 1895 rifles was so worn out that they couldn’t put out a gun that would work reliably. When they moved from their old plant they let all their old workers go and those old guys had babied the old equipment along to make it work. The new guys didn’t know which buttons to push to make the old worn out equipment crank out good product. So they closed down the production of the 1894 and 1895 rifles until all new equipment can be made and tested fully. They hope within a few months to start doing the testing and have guns coming out by next fall. The equipment that makes the model 336s and the model 39s* is newer equipment so they are able to build a few of them, but the emphasis right now is getting the new equipment in and going, and let the Kentucky plant carry them along.

This is what I've been telling everybody since my first days on here up to my last days and beyond at what used to be The Marlin Firearms Company. With the exception of the information about the Equipment that the REP told Gary Reeder. All 3 Plants; Ilion,NY, Mayfield,KY, & Lexington,MO; got Old & New Machinery in very good to excellent working condtion along with all the spare parts we had in the factory. They chose to never send any Mechanics or Electrical Techs to learn any of the equipment, and they have suffered greatly for their lack of vision. All that equipment put out a great deal of quality rifles over the the decades of their operation, and they could be run for decades more if there was somebody with a clue about Manufacturing a good product making those decisions. Instead, you have people throwing money at a problem that could have been solved with the knowledge that was abandoned in North Haven,CT. Ilion,NY has been running all out on 2 shifts to try to make some kind of product to get out to the public. From all the complaints I've read about their product on here. Quantity still has not made-up for what was once Quality. If you don't follow Process Control Plans & Inspections set-up by Engineering according to the Blueprints of what was a Proven Good Product, you are Doomed to make a Great Deal of Junk. I hope there will be groups of people that will take pride in what they are trying to produce. Not the "slam it together, and hope they don't notice it won't fire or cycle properly" mentality currently being employed.

I think a few us here can dispute that statement, though the rest sounds plausible.

Actually, I don't believe much of what Freedom Group or Remington has to say. I think they'd rather climb a tree to tell a lie than stay on the ground and tell the truth.

Stop and think about it. If the 336 and 39 equipment is so good why are they still having problems with those lines too? They cut loose the people who knew what they were doing and are trying to make do with people hired in off the street while pushing them to make a rifle in less than two minutes. Not very conducive to making a quality product. But it's "saving money" for Freedom Group.

    Aim Small.. Hit Small

What matters is marksmanship, shot selection, and bullet construction (mass, diameter and expansion behavior). These are things that don't tend to be found in ballistics tables

357 Magnum For when you just absolutely, positively have to shoot something.

Maybe I'm off base here but if the 336 manfacturing is fine then why can't they send me a new 308mx. It is on a 336 platform.....right?
