WRGB-TV Channel 6 News :: News - Top Stories - Five states trying to lure Remington Arms out of New York

    ....
The union that represents some 1,200 Remington Workers hand delivered the letter to State lawmakers earlier this week. It states Texas, Michigan, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Arizona have all sent letters to the company touting a business friendly and gun friendly atmosphere.

    ....
U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan wrote a personal letter to the head of Remington Arms inviting him to move his New York plant to South Carolina.

The letter comes after the passage of stricter gun laws in New York. Certain semi-automatic guns and large magazines are now banned. A law also require gun owners to register within one year any once legal guns banned under the law's tighter definition of assault rifles.

"Knowing the business climate and second amendment climate in New York is not that positive, we'd love to see Remington Arms come to South Carolina," Duncan said.

Former state Rep. Fletcher Smith says he too would support Remington moving its New York Plant to South Carolina. He does however take issue with how some of the letter from Duncan to the head of Remington is worded, specifically this portion: "The enemies of freedom are raging an all-out assault on the Second Amendment to the Constitution which we have sworn to protect and defend."

"Someone on the Remington staff is laughing when he calls reasonable gun control after the Sandy Hook situation enemies of freedom," said Fletcher Smith.

Smith says tougher gun laws and the right to bear arms can co-exist. Duncan does not support firearm restriction. He believes a company like Remington would appreciate his views.

Michigan, Texas and Oklahoma have also been working to get Remington to relocate to their state. Remington has not commented.

Well, I think even the unions are not looking clearly at what was said. THe words are Some product lines may be moved to another state. i.e Bushmaster. However. if the idiot from NYC has her way and does away with the tax breaks, it then becomes financially feasible for everything to move.

All of the complaining about the loss of jobs will only affect some of them. The hardcore libs care only about one thing- their agenda. Ousting them is the only message that they listen to. But then you have to be vigilant because they will try to return.

As for a move to another state. Why would they move to ANY New England state. The entire area is becoming more and more liberal each year with the politics moving further and further left each election.

Since we're speculating abut where a good place would be, here's my 2 cents. [ Cuz that's about all it's worth ] Best case move would be to an area with easy rail and freeway access that does not have a city or two big enough to control the politics of the rest of the state. Don't know if anyone thinks about it this way. Colorado is proof that when the largest city hits a certain size, the politics start movng to the left and as it grows larger the rest of the state has less and less say in what goes on. If I was them, I'd consider states with scattered populations that are hard core gun using states. The Dakotas, Wyoming, New Mexico, W Virginia, and a couple of the southern states would be options under this thought process.

South Dakota is an obvious choice. Alabama gives companies significant tax breaks to start factories, plus we have a suplus of union free labor since Delphi closed its doors and walked away, and NASA is losing funding.

Texas and S Carolina are good candidates for Remington. Good political climate and business perks. Magpul from Colorado is also in the administration crosshairs. (Pardon the pun)! Magpul makes plastic magazines for firearms. I think there were 600 jobs to be lost there.

Don't forget Montana. We've got a pretty good little cottage industry making weapons here. And someone in the legislature here just introduced legislation to say that guns manufactured and sold within the state of Montana are NOT subject to federal gun laws. That's now something that would impact Remington, but it does give you an idea of how we feel about guns here.
