Hi Folks - My "NEW" Marlin 1989 30AS/WS Package - Colectors Opinion

Any value in keeping my never shot, never handled, still in original packaging 1989 30AS/WS Combo (.30-30) "AS IS"? Everyone in the "336" forum says I should take her out and shoot her. Any opinions?

See my post in "336" titled NEW TO FORUM BUT NOT NEW TO MARLINS. I just added pictures.

I saw your post and congratulations on the great deal. You easily saved yourself a couple hundred bucks. If you have a hankering for a 30-30 (and who doesn't , I would definitely use that rifle and if you decide to sell it a few years down the road, I doubt you'd have a problem getting your money back (or in fact, a bit more), especially if you keep the box and bits.

I don't see a whole lot of long term (say in 10 or 20 years) collector's value in the rifle because it's a regular production "budget" version of the 336, and there are a lot floating around. I think the best way to get value out of your purchase is to use and enjoy the rifle, while taking care of it.

Thanks for the info. I figured that would be the case because it is a basic model 336 but never hurts to ask. I take care of all my guns - My 1894SS .44Mag rifle doesn't have a scratch on it and it is about 5 years old now but it is inevitable that eventually there will be a ding or scratch.

The 30AS will never make it to collector status. Use it and enjoy it.
