Question Marlin Model 56 Levermatic 22LR -- Is the barrel interchangeable with Model 57?

I have an old Model 56 with a badly pitted barrel. Still shoots okay, but I would like to get it either replaced or refinished. Saw a Model 57 barrel on eBay the other day, and wondered if the parts are truly interchangeable. Seems that the primary difference is the tubular magazine (57) vs. the stick mag (56). Also, I need a source to replace the cracked plastic buttplate. Thanks fo rthe assist!

Would the lugs that hold the mag tube on the 57 barrel be a cosmetic problem when removed to fit to the 56?

You could always get the barrel relined by a competent gunsmith. Try gunparts Corp. for the butt plate.

If your 56 has an aluminum receiver(early models were steel)the barrel would most likely fit but you might have to drill a completely new hole for the barrel retaining pin once head space is established.

If you have the early steel receiver Marlin 56I don;t know.I'd probably pull the pitted 56 barrel and compare it to an older model 80 barrel.

PS>> Numrich shows a new 56 barrel for around $60.00
