    Marlin 1893 Year of Manufacture?

I just purchased a Marlin 1893 with a serial of 389211. Can anyone tell me the year of birth for this rifle? Thanks

The serial number records are not clear after 1906. Is yours marked 1893 on the tang?

It was probably made in the 1920s. Some pictures will help.
I'm not as good as I once was but I'm better ONCE than I ever was.

The original Marlin records did end in 1906 at just above 355000 for all the lever-action
rifles. They were all grouped together in one set of numbers. That being said it is imposible
to know the exact number of fire-arms Marlin manufacture per year until they sold out in 1915
so all we can do is guess . Maybe somewhere between 1907 and 1908 ??

Thanks. The barrel is marked "For Black Powder" if that helps. I'm not sure how long they were marked that way...

The BP imprint on barrels appeared after 1906 or so when Marlin began to sell a "B" model after the Special Smokeless Steel barrels were introduced in 1896. You should also have a screw in the left side of the receiver near the bottom. Is it 38-55?

This is one my 1893s DOM 1893 in 38-55. Early models like this one had no barrel designation; they were all made for Blackpowder.

The Grade B Model 1893 was listed in the 1905 Marlin Catalog. Other than the Barrel being
of the softer metal and the receiver being blued on they were advertised as being the same. The
Grade B was offered in the 32-40 and the 38-55. The were advertised for Black Powder and low
level Smokeless Powder. They should only be shot with cast bullets and mild loads. It's not clear
with no records when the last Grade B Model 1893 might have be manufactured or shipped.
