To add to Marlinman's excellent write up I'm going to do a few other various Marlin models.
Some things are the same but theres a few differences worth noting.
For this demo I'm taking down my 1894C
First take out the tang screw & pull the stock off.
I generally take the buttstock off first if I'm breaking down the action. However for routine cleaning of the bore its not needed & you can skip this & just pull the lever & bolt.
Then remove the lever screw, pull the lever out the bottom & pull the bolt out the back. Pull the ejector after the bolts out.
Next, grasp the hammer, push in the trigger block, squeeze the trigger & lower the hammer. Its not hard but I dont have enough hands to take a picture of it.
Once the hammers down push the retainer to either side until it falls out & the spring can come off the strut. Its easier to control if you push the top out first.
When you go to put this back, slip the spring over the strut, slip the retainer over the strut as far as it'l go & then place the bottom into the slot. Once its started you can lever the top forward up & in, then push the retainer to center it in the tangs.
Next remove the hammer screw & pull it thru the top tang to remove it.
After the hammer screws out remove the trigger plate support screw & the screw just ahead of the lever.
Now you can pull the trigger plate out the bottom by simply spreating the tangs.
Once the trigger plate is out pull the locking lug out the bottom.
Then swing the lifter out, remove the screw & remove the lifter.
The only screw left is the loading gate screw. Its one you should never NEED to remove but if you do its alot easier to replace with the trigger plate off so you can reach inside & flatten the spring to bring the threaded hole up square. Its a small screw & not hard to strip.
This next part can be done without disassembling everything else if you just need to get the tube off.
To remove the mag tube first pull the cap screw while holding the cap to prevent launch.
Once the caps off pull out the spring.
Next remove the forward barrel band. On some guns the tube can be removed at this point. If its not free dont force it. If it comes out pull it out.
Now remove the rear band screw, if your tube wouldn't come out before it will now. Slide the band forward off the wood & barrel.
Then carefully. pull the fore end down & it'll come right off.
To put it back together just go in reverse.
